PRACTICE OF LAW

1. Focus and Experience  Practice is primarily litigation, including Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Family Law and business litigation. I serve several business clients and handle cases in Federal Court. Litigation has been a constant in the practice, starting with some 20 years’ experience in court representing appointed clients, which ended in 2002.

Appellate work is also a major element of the work, including a contract to handle appointed cases through the Louisiana Appellate Project for the last 6 years, as well as Capital Appeals and Post Conviction Cases.

2. Cases  My experience includes scores of Jury Trials to verdict, including direct representation before Death Penalty Juries in over a half dozen cases, representation of scores of defendants in Capital Cases that were resolved before trial, and many homicide, rape and other felony cases. No-one has been sentenced to death in any case I handled at trial. One was acquitted, most were dismissed, bargained for a lesser charge and sentence, or dismissed. I have been involved as a supervisor or consultant in over two dozen Death Penalty Trials. Most recently I was counsel in two Death Penalty cases in Orleans Parish, one of which was dismissed, the other ended in a Life Sentence.

Attorney of record or Amicus in well over two hundred fifty (300) reported cases since 1980, including several important decisions that had broad implications across the State:

App. LEXIS 1022, DECISION WITHOUT PUBLISHED OPINION Appeal of Jury verdict in "car hits cow" case out of Vermilion Parish. Co-counsel with lawyer from Baton Rouge. United States v Kennedy - AMICUS - Participated in writing ‘friend of the court’ brief in support of claim that the United States Supreme Court should consider whether Death Penalty for Rape of a Child under 12 was Constitutional.
