G. Paul Marx is a veteran Trial Lawyer with
over 26 years of experience, starting with over 20 years that included Public
Defender work through his private practice. His work includes Federal and
State cases, and he is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme
Court. He is admitted to practice in all the Courts of Louisiana, in
the Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, and the Western District of
Louisiana.
BANKRUPTCY
Mr. Marx is capable and experienced in
Chapter 7 and 13 cases under the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 2005. He has
been involved in the Bankruptcy Practice for more than 25 years.
Recent changes in the law require special attention to detail, involving income
and financial records. We can help you through the complicated rules,
which can be unusually challenging after passage of the "Bankruptcy Reform Act".

PERSONAL INJURY LAW
Putting a case together for litigation is
at the heart of the Personal Injury practice. The story of your injury and
its impact on your life is the work that your attorney must present. Mr.
Marx has handled numerous Personal Injury cases, including jury trials,
and these have been resolved in many cases without even going to court.
Support staff is available as needed for medical records review, and Mr. Marx is
always willing to associate special counsel if the case involves a particular
area or injury that presents unusual challenges or issues, particularly medical
or legal malpractice claims.
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
Facing the efforts of the Government to
lock you up will get your attention. Mr. Marx began his career in 1980 by
taking on difficult cases through a contract with the Public Defender in the
15th Judicial District. He served as Chief Defender for 17 years and left
that office in 2002 to continue his growing private practice. Criminal Defense
includes investigation of the facts, locating witnesses, knowledge
and understanding of the law, and the capacity to present a case to a Judge or
Jury. Few attorneys can cite the kind of experience that comes on this
resume. Mr. Marx has handled several Death Penalty Cases at the Trial
Court level, including retained matters. None of his clients were
subjected to the Death Penalty - ever.
His experience includes work under contract
to the Louisiana Appellate Project as well as scores of retained cases for
Appeal purposes. In his current post as Executive Counsel to the Louisiana
Public Defenders Association, Mr. Marx provides some 10 hours of Continuing
Legal Education in recent developments to members of the Louisiana
Bar.
Research, writing and public speaking are
strong talents which support a vigorous defense in any case.
WILLS, ESTATES AND BUSINESS
Mr. Marx has included as an important part
of his practice non-tax business law, including Corporations and
Contracts. He also handles Successions and simple Wills.
The business practice has included
litigation over non-competition agreements, collection suits, and contract
cases. He is currently Corporate Counsel for a major oilfield service
company in Acadiana. In the past he has served as Corporate Counsel for
media outlets in the region. In addition, his 17 years of experience in
management of the Public Defender in the 15th Judicial District included over 45
attorneys and a budget of over 1.2 million dollars a year.
Practical, dependable advice is the product in this area of the practice.
Continued
Training is critical.
ASSOCIATE COUNSEL IN OTHER MATTERS
When the
particular facts of a case or extraordinary issues require it, we are
always willing and able to associate other attorneys. For example, in
recent Trademark Litigation for one of our clients, we associated Baton Rouge
and Houston firms with specialization necessary to an aggressive defense of our
clients. This flexibility allows the client to avoid unnecessary expense
while at the same time insuring the full range of expertise and resources to
prevail.
