f. Taxes

Taxes must be paid, and filing Bankruptcy will not affect any taxes for which no return was filed or which are less than three years old. IF YOU HAVE NOT FILED INCOME TAX RETURNS FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS, YOU MUST DO SO BEFORE YOU CAN FILE . The taxing authorities will object to any Chapter 13 that does not include payment of back taxes.

Generally, any debt to the Government cannot be erased by Bankruptcy. This includes Taxes and Student Loans. There are a few exceptions, but this means such debts are a "priority" in your case, and must be paid. In a Chapter 7 it means the Taxes will still be owed after filing your case.

There are only a few instances in which Income Tax can be cleared.  Usually if the Return was properly filed and it was assessed by the government for more than three years,  you have a shot at discharging that tax.   But otherwise,  you will have to expect to continue to pay most bills owed to the government.
