WHAT WILL IT COST FOR CRIMINAL DEFENSE?

This is a question that can only be answered based on the facts in your particular case!  So, you won't be able to get a reliable fee until you visit with an attorney.  Then the general outline of the case can be considered and an experienced attorney can reach an agreement with you on the fee for your case.

1. Initial Consultation

In a Criminal Matter,  you have to pay an up front consultation fee for the lawyer's time in discussion of your case.  This fee is a flat $200, which is roughly the hourly rate for Mr. Marx's legal time.

2.  Steps in Payment of Fees

If you come in for advice quickly the fee can be divided into phases of the legal services for your case. Generally the steps are based on different points in the case:

    1) Initial payment covers work up to the point that "Trial Preparation" becomes necessary.

    2) Second payment is required when all else fails and we have to expect going to Trial.  You are notified that the "Trial Preparation Fee" is due and have 30 to 45 days to pay.

    3) The Third Payment is "Trial Fee" which is usually a small amount to cover actual trial time in court.

3.  Examples of typical Fees  (Just an example: your case may be different!)

Vehicular Homicide Case                DWI 4th Offense    PWITD Cocaine        Capital Muder

    1) Initial Payment  -   $8,500            $4,500                        $9,000                        $50,000

    2) Trial Preparation - $4,000           $2,000                        $3,500                        $20,000

    3)  Trial Fee -   $3,000                    $1,500                         $2,000                        $15,000

Most cases end in part 1 or 2 because we are able to develop good facts in defense of the case.
